'Congratulations, you've unlocked a digital artwork of Charters Towers Pottery Club.'
This digital artwork has been drawn by Gerald Soworka. Gerald Soworka gave up drawing at the age of 11 because he couldn’t do it “properly”. In his twenties he took up social documentary photography and installation using found objects. In his mid-thirties he ruined his back and had a lot of time on his hands laid up in bed. Learning to draw was a balm for the pain and depression of chronic disability. Being 25 years behind everyone else at art school gave his practice a sense of urgency. Today he’s still trying to get it right and to catch up before he peters out. He draws and teaches and encourages objective drawing as both a foundational creative skill and as a means of personal and psychological development. He’s based, as little as possible, in North Queensland with his wife and three chooks. Sketching is something he’s always been drawn to.
