Shop call out

Calling artists, artisans and makers

Have you visited the Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts gallery shop in person or online? Our shop currently features work by established and emerging artists from North Queensland, northern Australia and those with strong ties to the north. Umbrella aims to showcase, support and promote regional artists. We have developed a strong offering of unique, handmade artworks and objects, including textiles, ceramics, paintings, prints, books, cards and sculptures.

In the lead up to Christmas sales, we are looking to expand our stock and are calling for applications for our onsite and online gallery store. We are seeking work of an exceptional quality that demonstrates skill in process and design, and work that aligns with our aesthetic vision. If you have completed work or work-in-development that you would like to propose for inclusion in our shop within the coming weeks, please apply now. Applications for this round close 4pm Friday 22 November, however you are welcome to apply after this deadline for potential future inclusion.

Terms and Conditions

1. Applications must be completed in full through the form on this website to be considered, however if you have alternate accessibility requirements please reach out to us
2. Applications will be assessed on the above-outlined qualities by a panel of Umbrella staff.
3. Umbrella will prioritise unique, handmade items, however some work outside of this priority (such as archival digital prints) may be accepted if otherwise relevant.
4. Artists outside of North Queensland are welcome to apply, however all artists are responsible for the delivery and collection of their work if accepted.
5. Umbrella welcomes works at different price points (including greeting cards at a lower price point), but will generally prioritise works $50 or more to balance the administration time to consign, process and potentially photograph works. All work is subject to Umbrella's commission of 40% of the retail price of each work / item sold. Please take this into consideration when pricing artworks.
6. Due to the limited space in Umbrella's onsite shop, successful artists' works may be presented in the onsite gallery shop, online and / or rotated into storage, subject to Umbrella's priorities. There is no guarantee that all work will be photographed by Umbrella or promoted online.
7. Images submitted within this application may be used for promotional purposes, and artists additionally grant Umbrella permission to photograph any accepted work for promotional purposes. Umbrella will always endeavour to credit artists' work/s when images are used.
8. Artists will be contacted for more details or with an outcome of their application by early-November 2024, with a request for particular work/s. This may not be a request for all works submitted in the application.
9. Successful applicants will be sent a full copy of our consignment agreement for review and completion.
10. Successful artists will be required to deliver (or pay for delivery of) their work to arrive to Umbrella by mid-November 2024. Works delivered in person must be delivered 3-5pm Friday 15 November or 9am-1pm Sunday 17 November 2024.
11. All works consigned to Umbrella's shop will be consigned for a specified three-month period, or as otherwise requested by Umbrella. Artists will be required to collect (or pay for collection of) any unsold work from Umbrella at the end of the consignment period.
12. Shop artists are required to be financial members of Umbrella.
