Umbrella invites audiences to consider their identity in the virtual, online world by attending this nuanced discussion IRL in the gallery space. ^-^
Within the context of their exhibition littlebunny1111, and the associated activity space, Boorloo / Perth based artist Esther Forest will speak about constructed identities, social interaction and play, as well as the works on display. Audiences may reflect on their use of messaging and social media platforms such as MSN Messenger and MySpace, and more contemporary examples, and how those interactions shape/d their identity and presentation of self.

littlebunny1111 is on display alongside Proof: 2025 Umbrella Members’ Exhibition from the 6pm launch Friday 9 May until Sunday 8 June 2025.
Esther Forest (they/them) is an emerging artist and filmmaker who was born in Gurambilbarra / Townsville, North Queensland, but has been based in Western Australia for the past decade. Forest’s diverse practice combines stop-motion animation, experimental film, handcrafted dioramas, puppetry, mixed media and digital techniques to explore the intersections of the real and imagined. Their unique approach to storytelling and world-building addresses themes of online culture, social interaction, and magical thinking, often with a focus on challenging stereotypes, particularly those related to the schizophrenia spectrum.
