Elevator Dreams

Wing Hong Leung
Umbrella

Wing-Hong-Leung, Motion (detail), 2022, Photograph, 28 x 35.5cm.

Elevator Dreams is the feeling of the start or the end, where realities and blurred dreams are intertwined. Humans often throw themselves into undesirable places at particular times, hoping to arrive some place better than the last.
But where are we going? Or have we arrived?
In the end we don’t want to be here, there, or anywhere.
Anywhere but here.
Any time but now.
Maybe just somewhere else and some other time.

Exhibition opening launch
6pm Friday 26 August 2022
Full details here.

This exhibition is presented in Umbrella’s downstairs Vault space. Please note there is limited accessibility, as there is one staircase leading to the room (or access via the rear door on Ogden St), then a step up into the room. Please call Umbrella staff prior to your visit if you would like to discuss your options and arrange a time to access the space via our rear door. Due to technical difficulties, the slide projection component of the exhibition is currently not displayed. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Wing Hong Leung is a self-taught analogue photographer focusing on traditional photographic processes. His interest in documentary photography, printmaking and researching legacy darkroom texts has led him to pursue various projects surrounding the goal of obtaining physical silver gelatin prints. The artist has been a finalist in the Percival Photographic Portrait Prize (2020).
