At Home Artist In Residence Program

In addition to our Digital Experiences call-out, Umbrella Studio is calling for proposals from artists to undertake studio residencies from their own homes or studios.

This project is presented in partnership with the Regional Art Services Network, North QLD and is a pivot for Umbrella Studio in response to COVID-19 and our usual Studio Residencies program. Umbrella & RASN NQ will provide opportunities for 3 North Queensland visual artists who have lost income & opportunities as a result of the coronavirus.

This residency project will support artists to creatively develop a body of work in any medium over a two-week period commencing late May 2020. While there is no set theme or conceptual / physical direction, artists are encouraged to apply who have an interest in self-directed approach to research and development, and who wish to push boundaries in their practice. Artists should also propose a minor digital public program of 30mins or more as part of their residency. This may take the form of an artist talk, a workshop or another innovative online form of engaging local audiences in the artist’s practice.

Selected artists will each be paid a $1,000 artist fee. The artists will provide documentation of their residency for Umbrella to share on our social media platforms, eNews and website. Umbrella staff will be available to provide mentoring and logistical / digital support while the artist is in residence.

Umbrella encourages proposals from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and linguistically diverse and differently-abled artists. Should you require support or an alternate proposal method to meet your needs please contact us.

Please read the terms and conditions and apply via the form below. We welcome you to contact us to discuss your ideas and proposals before you submit if you wish. The successful applicants will be chosen by the Umbrella Exhibition Selection Panel.
