Artist Studio Assistants needed!
Renowned British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor is the lead artist for North Queensland’s Museum of Underwater Art project. Already underway, this project will see the construction of underwater eco-sculptures in four prominent North Queensland locations – close to the shoreline along the Strand, off Magnetic Island, near Palm Island and on John Brewer reef.
Construction of some of these works will occur in Townsville when Jason will be visiting during August, September and October 2019.
There is a unique opportunity for two local artists to be engaged as contractors to assist Jason with the casting and fabrication process. The positions available are for 2 x Artist Studio Assistants to be engaged under their own ABN directly with Jason to undertake hands-on tasks within an outdoor development site in Townsville (Pacific Marine Group – Sandspit Drive, South Townsville QLD 4810).
These will be labour-intensive roles, and applicants need to be hardworking and strong. Duties will include life casting, wooden mould fabrication, mixing and pouring cement, welding, sanding and finishing.
Applicants with knowledge of the commercial studio environment with experience working with power tools desirable.
It is incredibly rare to have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a world-renowned artist, on our doorstep here in Townsville. We highly recommend that you consider applying for this opportunity.

Hours: 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday
Rate: $20 / hour. Paid monthly
Application Process: Please send your CV and covering letter to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 16 August 2019.
