Residency for Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales

Emerging visual artists Umbrella Studio Members who live and work in Australia are invited to apply for a partially funded International Artist in Residence Scheme...

Aberystwyth Arts Centre, located in Wales has recently opened a suite of 16 Creative Units, which are used as studio spaces for artists or creative businesses. Three of these distinctive Units have been reserved by the Arts Centre for use in a rolling program of temporary artists in residence.

Since the Units opened in September 2008, 10 artists from the UK have undertaken three month residencies at Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Each artist is given a Studio to work in, local accommodation and basic living and materials expenses for the duration. In addition, Arts Centre staff introduces the artists to individuals and institutions in the locality with whom they might wish to work, take them to visit art galleries in the rest of Wales, and generally try to help facilitate their work during their stay.

The aim of these residencies has been to give the artists a period of ‘time out’ away from their usual life to experiment with their work as they wish; and the success of the past year’s residencies has shown that this is a much appreciated model for many artists.
