This workshop is open to everyone (beginners through to experienced artists). You will learn the key components of creating an etching – including plate preparation, etching techniques and the art of inking and printing your finishing plate.
The first weekend will focus on demonstrations with BIG ground, experimenting with different aquatint methods, coffee lifts, soft and hard grounds.
The second weekend will focus on printing your etched plates: how to set the press, the nuances of inks and wiping techniques, and how to clean up safely.
Dr Jill O’Sullivan is a master printmaking technician who has over 20 years’ experience in all printmaking mediums, specialising in etching and lithography.
Materials to Bring:
- Drypoint tools (some will be provided if you do not have any)
- Printmaking papers – approx. 250gsm Hahnemühle, Rosapina, Fabriano – Umbrella will have paper available for purchase if required.
- Cotton pads
- Eucalyptus oil
