Simone Lee Long
(Artist Statement for Incidental Beauty)
My ideas and artwork stem from my interest in patterns and textiles. The main influences which have driven my work can greatly accredited to my mother. I grew up in a home where patterns and textiles were very important; quilts, paintings, dancing, costumes, embroidery, vintage lace, and more. The other influences in my work are well-known artists, Florence Broadhurst and William Morris: both accomplished pattern designers and screen printers.
I'm attracted to patterns because they can change the mood and atmosphere of even the dullest places. they help harness desired feelings or emotions. My patterns are mainly inspired by vintage lace and embellished textiles. They exude femininity, simplicity, and elegance.
