Raya M Koskela
My grandmother taught me to knit and crochet when I was about 5 years old, since then I’ve always had an interest in Arts and Crafts. It’s the creative process that fascinates, turning a basic material into something completely different.
Before enrolling in Visual Arts at TAFE, I designed and made tapestries, cushions and other crafts, then sold them at Cotters Markets. I also did works on commission.
I received my Diploma of Visual Arts in 2006 and still engage in arts studies at TAFE every year.
I’ve exhibited in several group exhibitions of painting, installations and even printing.
Fellow artists and friends regard my work as somewhat edgy. I see my art as colourful, design oriented, semi abstract with a social message.
